Entertainment/Art

Leaving the cool, silent atmosphere of the library, J checked the time. Only 3 pm. He didn't want to go home quite yet. Watching TV or playing on Xbox in the middle of the day felt like such a waste. From the list of things to do on vacation, he recalled the Akseli & Young Finland exhibition at Tampere Art Museum. Even though Akseli Gallen-Kallela is one of the biggest names in the Finnish art history, J didn't know a whole lot about him. Time to catch up, he thought and headed to the museum just a few blocks away.

Three hours later, at the closing time of the museum, he stepped out, impressed by the characters' lively expressions and the beautiful use of colors and shadows in the paintings. What took so long was the surprisingly interesting exhibition booklet that truly opened the window to the world of the artist. Normally J would have just walked through the exhibition, only briefly stopping to look at the paintings, but now he had thoroughly read the interesting explanations and history of each painting in the booklet.

After such a dose of culture, J was now comfortable with spending the evening with TV and Xbox.
