The contest is over now, Serbia won and the East Europe ruled in the results. To Finns this contest has been a great source of national shame, up until Lordi won last year. As a winner, Finland got to organize this year's event. Now that the shame of never succeeding was blown away, we expected to be ashamed of the arrangements of this year's show.
I too got the biggest excitement from expecting something to go wrong, to again feel ashamed as a Finn for the rest of the world. But it didn't happen, mostly. The arrangements and the technology seemed to work very well. The show was good, Apocalyptica was good, the circus acts were good. Especially the onstage video graphics were gorgeous. The only issues I had with the show were an overexposure to Krisse and the scary drunken Santa Claus. But I doubt that foreigners noticed them enough for us to be ashamed.
I'm glad that the contest is over now, and I'm glad that it is not in Finland next year. There has been just too much Eurovision everywhere for the past month. Today we can focus on ice hockey, where Finland is playing in the World Championships final. Maybe they will again screw up the game in the last minutes so that we all can have our collective shame.
