Ehkä yömyöhä-sivulla ei ole konkreettista tai hyödyllistä tietoa, sen hyväksyn. Tuota "mainoksessasi"-kohtaa en ymmärrä, ei minulla mitään omia mainoksia ole.

Pitäkää tunkkinne, sanon minä :) Täytyy nyt vaan koittaa pärjätä ilman mainostuloja - ai niin, eihän niistä ole vielä senttiäkään tilille tullut.

I have sold my soul to Google. This site now features Google AdSense advertisements. The usage is also tracked with Google Analytics.

I'm only doing this because I wanted to try out Google Ads and Analytics. I don't think there will be enough click-throughs to ever receive any money from the ads. There is no such content here that would attrack tons of visitors. Furthermore, the ads are hidden so low on the page that nobody will ever notice them.

I reorganized the categories a bit. I removed the Meta category that I never liked, and moved its content under Personal/Administration. The old permanent links to those entries don't work any more, but I don't know why anyone would have linked to them anyway.

Also, I recently renamed Entertainment category to Media, but now I reverted it back to Entertainment. I initially felt that some of the entries are not that entertaining but more like educational or for general interest. However, after looking at the title Media for a while I began to feel it's too plain and the word Entertainment has more associated value. Besides, there is a slim chance that someone has a link to an entry under Entertainment, so better keep it unchanged. But I might move some individual entries elsewhere or make changes to some subcategories, so links to those might get broken. Just need to live with that, I won't bother fixing it.

Jarnography is now available also as an ATOM feed. To be more exact, as several feeds, because every category has its own feed. Additionally, the good old RSS feeds are now improved. Links can be found in the left column.

Now that I have a working DSL connection at home, I hope that I remember to write here more often. Typing entries with SSH connection over GPRS is not fun, believe me.

When I say that this site is primarily for me, then why do I write (mostly) in English, I'm asking myself. Why not Finnish which is my mother tongue?

Answering myself: There are at least two reasons. One is that while I claim to write for myself, it's not really the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. When I write in English, I hope that more people have a chance to read this. I'm especially thinking about my friends in the US. Not that I knew why anyone would read this, but just in case.

Another, more rational reason is that I want to practice expressing myself in English. Now that I don't live in the US any more and I don't use English as my primary language, I'm a bit worried that my English is deteriorating (for example I had to look up 'deteriorating' in the dictionary). At work I get to write technical documents in English, but writing this kind of free-form musing is very different from it.

So, English it is. Except in the 'Moments' category, which really is my moblog, and which I write on my mobile phone. The phone has the T9 predictive text input system, which does support both English and Finnish. But because I send the text messages for my friends in Finnish, I normally use Finnish as the input language and so far it has been too much effort to switch the language just for typing in a random moblog sentence and then switch back.

I changed the default view to be in blog style, with the featured item title shown in the left column. I don't really like it, but I didn't like the old one either, where only the featured item was shown.

Let me take the new website look and content out of the closet! There is still a lot to do, but right now I'm out of motivation to work any more on this wonderful piece of information. Little by little I will steer it into the direction I want. Meanwhile, enjoy.
